Contact | Engage | Obedience

C.E.O. Describes the steps that a Handler, Owner or Dog Trainer must take to achieve a positive training session.

C

Contact refers to the proximity of the dog and handler.  Without Contact, there's no way to gain focus or attention!

E

Engage refers to the dog maintaining focus. When a dog is engaged, he/she is essentially saying to the handler, "Now what?" Engagement is not having the Handler engaged with dog, but more so, that the dog is trying to engage the Handler!

O

Obedience. Once the first two steps are complete, The Handler can now begin to teach. The dog is comfortable around the Handler and keeps a close distance: CONTACT. The dog is eager to grasp the Handler’s attention: ENGAGE. The Handler returns attention to the dog and begins to teach new techniques and behaviors: OBEDIENCE!
